(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 02, 2009 ) While the next major mixed martial arts pay per view event is still a few weeks away — UFC 104 on October 24 — hardcore fans should rejoice with the emergence of tomorrow night’s MFC 22 event at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada as a very legitimate card on its own.

MFC 22 features a main event clash between former UFC standout middleweight fighters Jason “The Athlete” MacDonald and Travis Lutter as they look to get back to their winning ways in an attempt to reestablish their worth in an increasingly fickle market. While MacDonald is coming off of back to back losses in the UFC to Wilson Gouveia and Nate Quarry respectively, Lutter has been out for a year and a half following his UFC 83 TKO loss to former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin, putting his overall health and preparedness into serious question.
Nevertheless, both fighters will be looking to win and win impressively in order to remain afloat as top middleweight fighters in a division that has exploded in 2009.
In the co-featured bout of the evening, MFC Lightweight Champion Antonio McKee will look to defend his title against durable and experienced WEC veteran Carlo Prater, a fighter looking to establish him as more than just a flash in the pan following his disappointing 0-2 stint with the Zuffa-owned promotion.
Former UFC middleweight and welterweight fighter Luigi Fioravanti will look to make a case for reconsideration by the top promotion in the sport with a resounding win over journeyman fighter John Alessio, who is coming off of a submission win over Andrew Buckland at the last MFC event in May.
Also in action will be former UFC fighters Marvin Eastman, Pete Spratt, David Heath, and Mike Nickels, rounding out what should make for an exciting night of fights for Canadian MMA fans. Look to ProFighting-fans.com at the conclusion of each fight for the official MFC 22 results.
