(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 11, 2010 ) Calgary, Alberta — Today’s teenagers are so attuned to technology, so engrossed in texting and updating their Facebook status, that they’re missing out on basic relationship-building and leadership skills. Without exposure to effective communication and life skills, Generation Y could face an uncertain future.
The Dale Carnegie Course for Teens offers 12 weeks of interactive, educational sessions that will instill in teens the ability to balance school, work and relationships, make effective plans for the future and learn the tools they need to succeed.
According to to Faye Fisher, vice president of Dale Carnegie Training – John M. Fisher & Associates: “Dale Carnegie today is more relevant and more greatly needed than any other time in its history. We’re creating an environment where young people can learn to communicate and interact with other individuals. It’s a positive experience that gives them an advantage.”
The Dale Carnegie Course for Teens begins with a free orientation at 10:15 a.m. on Sept. 11, at Dale Carnegie Training – John M. Fisher & Associates. The first session runs 9:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Saturdays from Sept. 25 to Dec. 18.
The Dale Carnegie for Teens curriculum is targeted and age-appropriate. It incorporates time-phase learning techniques for better retention, and addresses the following:
• Building self‐confidence
• Enhancing communication skills
• Interpersonal skill development
• Teamwork and leadership skills
• Stress management techniques
Courses are high energy and participatory. Dale Carnegie Course for Teens provides the opportunity for students to work with mentors. Jes Wakelam, director of the program, has seen the growth and change that occurs once students complete the course.
“Teens leave the program with vastly improved leadership skills,” she said. “ They learn how to deal with issues they face in school, from bullying to learning when to say no. Skills – such as how to comfortably address a crowd – transfer to university, post-secondary education and the work world. Students leave us with a huge boost of confidence that lasts.”
