Honeywell Expects Two-fold Growth For Global Turbo Segment By 2015 - Update
Diversified technology company Honeywell International Inc. (HON: News ) Wednesday stated that it expects the global turbo segment to double in the next five years to 35 million new turbo vehicles from 17 million in 2009. The company also projects the global turbocharged commercial vehicle engine segment to grow to six million engines in 2015 from 3.5 million engines last year.
The company's expectation includes a rapid growth in the U.S., where turbocharged vehicles are expected to grow to more than four million or over 20% in five years from nearly one million or 5% vehicles sold today. In China, turbocharging is estimated to grow to 20% by 2015 from today's about 10%. Honeywell stated that the growth in all regions is primarily driven by increased adoption of smaller, turbocharged gasoline engines.
According to the company, automakers are increasingly looking to turbocharging amid tightening fuel economy and emissions standards worldwide, coupled with consumer demand for affordable, more fuel efficient vehicles. Turbocharging can deliver up to 20% better fuel economy on gas vehicles, and up to 40% better fuel economy on diesel vehicles, at a significant cost discount to hybrid and electric vehicles.
Commenting on the outlook, Alex Ismail, president and chief executive officer of Honeywell Transportation System, stated, "We have witnessed a sharp increase in demand for our turbos on both passenger and commercial vehicles in the U.S. and China, and expect to grow in new sectors like small gas (petrol) engines in Europe, where turbo penetration is already very strong."

Investment firm Westwood Holdings Group Inc. (WHG: News ) Wednesday said it would acquire Omaha, Nebraska-based investment advisor McCarthy Group Advisors, LLC for undisclosed financial terms, with a view to expand the Westwood Trust platform into additional markets.
Founded in 1986, McCarthy invests in the public equity and fixed income markets of the United States. According to the company, McCarthy Group managed over $1 billion in private wealth and institutional client assets as of June 30. McCarthy serves as the advisor to the McCarthy Multi-Cap Stock Instl (MGAMX), a no-load mutual fund.
The company said it expects McCarthy Group to operate as an Omaha branch of Westwood Trust, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Westwood. As of June 30, Westwood had total assets under management of $9.7 billion, including $1.8 billion under management at Westwood Trust.
The transaction is anticipated to close in the fourth quarter, and is expected to be accretive to the earnings of Westwood Holdings Group.
According to the Dallas, Texas-based company, which is eeking to augment its organic growth by strategically acquiring mutual fund assets and private wealth firms, the acquisition of McCarthy Multi-Cap Stock Fund provides a natural extension to the WHG Funds mutual fund lineup.
Further, Westwood said McCarthy Group's founder and Chief Investment Officer, Rich Jarvis will join its investment team.
