(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 17, 2012 ) Ontario, Canada -- A VictoriaÂ’s Secret model climbed a tree naked in the freezing cold, but she says it was for art.
“The deal was that nothing would show and it would be a very timeless and classy photo,” said Miranda Kerr, an Australian supermodel, according The Sydney Morning Herald.
Australian photographer Russell James has earned international praise. He has a new book titled Nomad Two Worlds that he unveiled November in New York.
“There’s a lot of trust involved when you ask someone to climb up a tree naked,” James told the newspaper.
They were shooting at a location called Palm 21 in the California desert, where the temperature drops to five degrees.
“It was a freezing cold afternoon and it was windy and the sun was going down,” James said. “I could see Miranda’s skin was covered in goosebumps.”
After the photo was taken, James had part of the image painted by Native American artists Jamie Okuma.
Throughout JamesÂ’ book, photos and indigenous painting blend. He has included American, Australian and Haitian artists. Other models who worked with him for the book include Heidi Klum and Nicole Trunfio.
Kerr acknowledges she had some doubts at first.
“But when he explained the meaning behind it and the connection to indigenous culture, I definitely found the inspiration to climb a tree naked,” she said.
Kerr has been involved with JamesÂ’ Nomad Two Worlds organization. He set up the organization to support and bring attention to indigenous artists.
Part of the proceeds from the book will help pay for art in indigenous areas. The organization has its own perfume. Raw Spirit – Fire Tree is advertised as a “love potion” made from the Australian tree.
Kerr expressed pride in helping with JamesÂ’ project.
“I think what Russell’s doing is a great cause and it’s important to be giving back to these communities,” she said.
