(I-Canada-News.Com, June 07, 2013 ) Alberta, Canada -- While some ventures have a better return than others, increasing home equity through remodel and renovation is always a good idea, whether you’re going to sell your house or enjoy the new look by living in a more contemporary home.
Remodeling Magazine recently released a report that explains the best renovations based on investments returns and came up with some specific examples to help get homeowners the most profitable returns out of their work.
Top among the renovations include putting in a steel frame door, adding a wooden deck, replacing the garage door and last, but not least, minor kitchen remodeling, defined by Remodeling Magazine as spending almost $20,000 on new appliances, paint, and floors in the cooking and dining area(s).
Partly due to tax season and federal and state tax returns, Springtime is the most popular time for home renovations, but also because it’s a good time of the year for a new beginning, and if you’re doing it yourself, it’s not too hold or cold.
Remodeling magazine and the National Association of Realtors want to remind homeowners and renovations that home upgrades are created equal when it comes to selling a home. Judy Moore, a suburban Boston real estate agent says its important to choose what will bring the most resale value out of a renovation. Some renovations are worth a lot more than others in terms of gaining the most profit when selling the house.
The Remodeling 2012-2013 Cost vs Value Report is a yearly overlook by Remodeling Magazine that estimated costs of 35 popular home-renovation projects in 81 major cities, then polled some 3,900 Realtors to calculate how much each upgrade would add to a property's value.
None of the projects studied offer a 100% or better return on their average nationwide price, which means that most U.S. homeowners will lose money on any job they do on a home. However, Moore adds that you "have to look at the total package" and whether or not you are going to sell or continue living in your home for a while when calculating an upgrade's overall value.
