(
EMAILWIRE.COM, March 30, 2012 ) Ontario, Canada -- Owner of a
web site all about dogs, Jon has shared his life with Lars for the last three years, and Luther for the seven years before that. Jon and any other guide dog user will tell you that when it comes to educating the public about their dogs, they embrace the opportunity and that by doing so they are also able to debunk the myth that all blind people are unable to function independently, a stereo type that follows blind people around like the plague.
"It really bothers me," Jon says. "Some of the questions people ask me about my dog simply leave me wondering if it is the person asking me that is able to function independently. Yes Lars stops when we come to stairs, but no, he does not show me how to get from my living room to my bathroom! I understand that people are curious and I have no problem indulging their curiosity but a little common sense for my sanity would be appreciated, and no YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SPEAK LOUD! I am blind not DEAF!"
Recently Jon's frustration got the better of him and he set out to change the world, even if it is doing so, one blog reader at a time. He locked himself away in his basement, ate sardine sandwiches that Lars prepared for him because blind people are apparently unable to make their own food ha, ha, ha, and did not come out of his layer until he had finished constructing a
Guide Dog 101 which he says, "is for all the smart people and all the not so smart people also.
"Maybe I am asking too much of people," he says. "Maybe what equals common sense to me is not what equals common sense to someone else but seriously, asking me if I need to use my guide dog to find my own bathroom deserves the response that I so often give, one that I can not elaborate on here.
